Pregnant and going to the doctors tomorrow, embarassing question!?

So I am 20 years old, and I am having a baby girl. My appointment is tomorrow (Thrusday) and I have three doctors there, one is a female and the other two are males. I never had a male down there before (well a male doctor that is ;-) ) so I am a little nervous because I heard they check you to see if you are dilated. (36 weeks pregnant) I have some (eww) hemorrhoids, and I cant see myself to shave anymore, so I am so embarassed to go in tommorrow, I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if they were the same way, and what they did to calm the nerves. I know this is silly, but its very unsettling that a doctor will be down there. I know they have seen it all, but I just want some experiences from normal people, thanks!!

First off, congratulations on your baby girl!!
I am curious as to how, at 36 weeks you haven’t been seen by every doctor yet in the practice. While a special relationship usually develops between the patient and one of the doctors, it is a good idea to get to know all of them. When you go into labor, (unless you’re having a planned C-section or induced) you may not get the doctor you know best, but the doctor in the OB/GYN practice that is on call that night.
It is natural to feel a bit apprehensive or embarrassed with a new doctor (especially a GYN male), but please try not to think of it that way. Believe me, he doesn’t care if you are as hairy as an ape with toe nails that curl over your feet. You’re pregnant & no one expects you to be able to keep up your customary primping!
And when they check for dilation they usually are looking at the wall while they are feeling your cervix anyway, not up close & personal with a flashlight.
If you are really bothered though, you could ask one of the nurses to stay near you during the exam or hold your hand, or even ask the female doctor to introduce you to the other doctors before you are seen by them. Perhaps an informal verbal consult could even be arranged by a sympathetic nurse.
Either way, hemorrhoids or not, (and believe me, no one had any bigger than mine LOL!) these other two doctors could wind up being the ones to help you through the most magical moment of your life! Besides, hemorrhoids are no laughing matter – make sure you ask the nurse what you can do to lessen the suffering!
Last suggestion is to consider bringing someone with you who you trust or who you know has a calming influence on you and have them go into the room with you. Then, make sure on your way out that you make an appointment for the other doctor you haven’t met yet!!
Good luck!!
