wiIl a stool softener help the one first in Iine?

What kind of over the counter medication will soften the poo first in line? I have hemorrhoids and Im trying to avoid straining although I am constipated

For this problem a glycerin suppository is called for. It softens what is already there and acts like a lubricant. A stool softener works in the intestine.. They also have liquid glycerin suppositories,which work well.
