After the birth of my third and fourth babies, I had these. I’m sorry. :( Anyway, try the witch hazel but soak a paper towel with it and apply it and hold in place for several minutes. It may burn a little, depending on how raw the skin is. Repeat every hour as needed. The swelling goes down quickly, at least it did for me. I would even apply the compress, waddle to bed and take a nap (while baby was sleeping), then get up after an hour and remove the compress.

Sitz baths with garlic and goldenseal really helped me too. Make a very strong tea with these herbs and if you happen to have a Sitz basin great, but you can do this in the bathtub too. Have the water as hot as you can stand it and soak your bum till it cools off.

Alternately, fill a peri-bottle (you can get these at the drug store for really cheap) and squirt the solution on your bum while sitting on the lieu.
