hemorrhoids urethra

by on March 9, 2010

i had my baby 2 weeks ago and i was curious when is it okay to take a bath? I have the sitz bath ?

that the dr gave me. is that meant to clean you in the front or is it for the hemorrhoids that you get from pushing?? Also, I had to have a catheter put on me bc i couldn’t pee after i delivered from the swelling of pushing and now i am unable to tell if i have to go. The only way i can is if i start feeling swelled up in a sense in that area.. has anyone else had this problem before? the dr says there was trauma to the urethra which is why i am unable to tell when i have to go right now but i was just curious if anyone else has gone through what i am now..

I had the same problem as you and I was actually told NOT to take a regular bath. I asked if I could because of the pain from my hemorrhoids and every nurse and doctor I asked (and trust me- I asked plenty because I was looking for a yes!) told me that I couldn’t until my stitches dissolved because there was risk of infection. I did deal with the not being able to pee and the not feeling like I had to and that goes away with time. You are only 2 weeks pp. I started feeling better about 4 weeks after. I delivered naturally, no medicine (well pushed with no medicine…my epidural wore off before I had to push), I got an episotomy and then even after the Dr cut me…my son (who had a big head) still tore me even more. I was literally stitched from front to back. And my cousin had her stitches get infected (from different reasons though) and the pain she described from me was not worth taking a bath. Use the squirt bottle they gave you, if you have discomfort from any stitches or hemorrhoids (I know TMI but I had 4 of them that were the size of ping pong balls…they were going to have to be surgically removed but then they shrunk drastically thanks to LOTS of medicine) use the TUCKS pads but then buy a bottle of Witch Hazel (which is 85% witch hazel as opposed to the 25% that the TUCKS pads are) and then pour some of the liquid witch hazel over the pad and apply that to the hemorrhoids or to the stitches and it will help with any discomfort or itching.
