Constipation can be cause by many things. Some of the most common causes are lack of bulk fiber in the diet, lack of water, medications and inactivity.

Treatments could include the following:

Increasing water intake.

Increasing dietary fiber, either by eating foods high in fiber or taking a fiber supplement such as Metamucil or Fiber-sure.

Assess which medications could be causing constipation such as pain medications, antidepressants, etc. Consider if these medications are absolutely necessary.

Increase physical activity, which will increase bowel activity and keep things moving.

Try adding a stool softener pill. These are available over the counter. They pull water into the intestines and make the stool softer and easier to expel. If taking these, make sure to also increase your water intake.

Do fish get hemorrhoids? EMERGENCY!?

I have a 2″ midas cichlid, and it appears as though his anus has inverted. It has turned itself out of the body about 1 cm, and the poop comes out of that. He isn’t looking good now, almost swimming sideways and trying to hide out, I’ve never seen this, what should I do?

It sounds like a prolapsed rectum. Unfortunately, there’s not really anything you can do to remedy the situation. I’d suggest adding a bit of salt (about a tablespoon per 10 gallons) solely to help prevent infection (it will stimulate the fish’s immune system). You’ll also want to separate it from any other fish, as it will be vulnerable as long as its insides are out. There’s a chance it will resolve itself, but more likely, you’ll have trouble down the line.

Breastfeeding and contracted some virus yesterday. Terrible cramps and diarrhea , can I take anything for it?

Can I take anything for it to slow it down while BF? Like pepto??

Also, it gets bad when I eat ….. can I eat less till this goes away. As long as I keep drinking plenty of water my milk supply will be fine, right?

These cramps are terrible, so painful … I also developed a hemorrhoid from going so much :(

Just stay hydrated, you don’t have to eat to keep your supply up and sometimes resting your stomach is the best thing you can do. I am pretty sure ammodium is okay as well. Call your OB-there is a prescription drug called Lomotil that is safe fore pregnant women and may be okay for nursing moms too, that really helps when nothing else is doing it.
Feel better soon!!

I have a bump in my anus area? Is it Hemorrhoids (I think that’s spelled wrong)?

I noticed I had a whitish bump inside my anus area and it hurts whenever I sit down or just hurts period. I haven’t tried going to the bathroom yet because I heard it hurts really bad if you do have Hemorrhoids. I’m not sure what it is and I’m kind of freaked out about it. I did go to the beach recently if that makes any of a difference, I really doubt that though.

Hi,
According to your explanation it seems you do have hemorrhoids. I know it can be very painful. It can bleed too when you go to bathroom. There are prescription medicines to treat it. I know it is embarrassing but you should get medical help. If you want to learn more and treat yourself, I found you a resource to cure hemorrhoids.
Hope this helps

hemorrhoids ! will it go away ?

i found out that i have a hemorrhoid the size of a pea. will it go away by itself ? in how much time ? just answer quick and simple. no need to copy/paste from wikipedia. i know about the remedies and diet changing.i stay much on the chair. and if i continue to stay on the chair , will it go away or get worse ?

The simple answer is yes it should go away however keep in mind it can come back. The vascular wall has been weakened and thus is prone to coming back again. Read the following if you wish to understand a little more.

First you must understand what a hemorrhoid is (in case you do not know). Simply put a hemorrhoid is an engorged set of veins that have prolapsed (literally means “to fall out of place”). You can think of them as varices of the anus instead of the legs.

Grouped into 4 stages
-Stage I – Internal hemorrhoids that bleed.
-Stage II – Internal hemorrhoids that cause bleeding and prolapse with straining but return to their resting point by themselves.
-Stage III – Internal hemorrhoids that bleed and prolapse with straining and require manual effort for replacement into the anal canal
-Stage IV – Internal hemorrhoids that do not return into the anal canal and are therefore constantly outside.

Stage I initially treated with no surgery, simple changes in diet with fiber, water, toilet training etc and the liberal use of anti-hemorrhoid creams which do not cure but help with the symptoms.
Stage II or III hemorrhoids are initially treated with non invasive procedures (Rubber Band Ligation).
Very symptomatic grade III and grade IV hemorrhoids are best treated surgicaly (hemorrhoidectomy-removal of hemorrhoids).

Because it is believed that straining and a low-fiber diet cause the disease we typically try more conservative treatment options which include: increasing fiber and liquid intake and retraining in toilet habit. This should shrink internal hemorrhoids and decreases their symptoms. Internal hemorrhoids should include measures to decrease straining and constipation. The fiber you wish to have is not fully dissovable which is how it works, it causes a mass. Toilet retraining involves reminding patients that the lavatory is not the library and this should be practiced at all times. Bathing in tubs with warm water usually eases painful perianal conditions probably due to relaxation of the sphincter and spasm. Aggressive therapy (AKA surgery) is reserved for patients who have persistent symptoms after 1 month of conservative therapy. Just to note, the idea here is to treat the symptoms not the aesthetics.

3rd and 4th stage hemorrhoids:
These usually require some kind of intervention; especially when resistant to proper clinical treatment and in my opinion most 3rd/4th stage individuals end up in surgery. Keep in mind that surgical removal is reserved for patients with 3rd/4th stage hemorrhoids or patients who fail non-surgical treatment or patients who also have significant symptoms from external hemorrhoids or skin tags.

You should increase fiber as indicated (minimum 25g per day) with increased water intake and proper toilet hygiene (do not sit there for an eternity) as a method of avoiding increase pain and number of hemorrhoids. Also note that the available creams simply help with the symptoms but do not really “treat” the problem. A common mistake of patients is the incorrect use of these creams in which they simply apply it externally and superficially on the anal sphincter area. The proper use requires proper placement WITHIN the rectal canal (remember that hemorrhoids are external AS WELL AS internal). Most of these creams have an astringent (zinc paste or aluminum which helps keep area dry and sooth burning sensation, witch hazel is another one) or anesthetic (lidocaine, xylocaine or anything that ends with “aine”, basically “sleeps” the area) or steroid anti-inflammatory (ex: hydrocortisone most common, or anything that ends with “sone” which decreases inflammation), phenylephrine (preparation H which basically decreases vein size aka constricts) or all 3. The most effective creams contain hydrocortisone at a high dose (>1% hydrocortisone) but usually requires a prescription, local anesthetic and astringent. Therefore use them as needed to pass the day but do not believe they will actually remove the problem. Instead they will help shrink the hemorrhoid and even alleviate what you feel. It feels like a cure but it is false, it feels that way because you feel better and with time they go away but this was not due to the cream, in most cases they would have gone away with time anyway. They do help them resolve a little sooner due to the fact that they help reduce inflammation. Also stay away from the so called NSAIDS (Aspirin, Ibuprofen-Advil/Motrin, Naproxene-Aleve) which although stop clotting increases bleeding and can lead to more pain in some cases.

I really hope this helps you out and that you can quickly get evaluated by a physician to finally resolve the issue.

Can Preparation H cure hemorrhoid or just for relieve symptoms?

Using a topical creme(Prep H) is not a long term answer to get rid of hemorrhoids, but it will provide temporary relief and shrink the hemorrhoid. If you are looking to cure the hemorrhoid, I suggest visiting, http://curebleedinghemorrhoids.com and checking out the all natural cure. I used this after struggling with hemorrhoids for over a year and having surgery recommended to me. I have been hemorrhoid free and using an all natural treatment was much better than the pain and discomfort I would have faced with surgery. There is also a mini course that will teach you about hemorrhoids and their root cause.
